Restoring Common Sense

Our Mission

Our mission is to restore the application of “common sense” to the status it once held in our society. Since we are obviously not born with “common sense,” it is a learned quality. It must be taught, first by our parents and extended family, then by our schools and churches, if it is to reappear throughout  the population. Please join us as we begin this daunting task! There is no more important mission! Let it begin with YOU!

How Do We Start?

Nearly all of the problems confronting civilization today are directly attributable to the near total lack of the application of “common sense” in the decision making process of the responsible party (parties). Unfortunately, this is the case in all segments of our society. Over the last half-century, there has been a gradual, but steady decline in teaching what constitutes “common sense.”  Further, we must also be taught how it is to be applied in the decision making process, both individually and collectively, on a life-long basis. It’s a subtle thing – similar to learning how to distinguish the difference between right and wrong.

So, how does a person acquire this semi-elusive quality we’re referring to as “common sense?” Like everything else we learn – from exposure!

We learn to’do-don’t do’, to’go-don’t go’, to discern ‘right-from wrong.’ Initially we learn from our own experiences, then we begin to learn from the experience of others. Observation, reading, listening are all ways we accumulate the knowledge necessary to formulate that quality known as “common sense.”

Once we recognize what constitutes “common sense,” we must learn how to apply it in all of life’s decisions – large and small, throughout the balance of our lives. Then, and only then, will society’s myriad problems dissipate – not disappear completely! As long as humans are involved, we can all rest assured there’ll be those who don’t get the point!

Such dissipation will likely be of similar duration to the fading of “common sense” from the scene.  It will require a massive amount of determInation and patience on the part of our “warriors” who will carry out this mission.   Perseverance must reach near super-human levels in these courageous individuals! Only then will a sufficient degree of success be achieved to consider the mission a success.

Vigilance will be imperative on a continuing basis, to assure a repetition of our plight never happens! Perhaps our successors will be able to modify our name to “Maintaining Common Sense.org!”
